Last updated: 07 October 2026. Please read these terms carefully before using MatricMatch.
MatricMatch is an informational tool only. It is designed to help South African matric students get a general idea of which university and college programmes they may qualify for based on their NSC results.
By accessing or using the MatricMatch website (https://matricmatch.co.za), you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms & Conditions and our Disclaimer above. If you do not agree, please do not use this site.
These terms apply to all visitors, users, and anyone who submits an application assistance request through this site.
MatricMatch provides the following free services to South African matric students:
The service is provided free of charge to students. The site is supported by advertising. Advertisers do not influence course eligibility results.
Nature of the service — information and referral only. MatricMatch's bursary and student loan listings are informational: we aggregate publicly available information from institutions, government schemes, banks, and private lenders, and link directly to each provider's own application process. MatricMatch does not facilitate, broker, underwrite, process, or collect applications for any loan or credit product, and we are not a party to any loan or credit agreement between a student and a provider. Where our Application Assistance service submits an application on a student's behalf (see Section 5), we are acting only as the student's agent in forwarding their own information to the institution or funder they selected — we do not make funding or admission decisions.
Accreditation. MatricMatch does not itself provide, deliver, or accredit any course, qualification, or training programme. Courses and qualifications listed on this site are offered and accredited by the universities, TVET colleges, and other institutions themselves; we display publicly available information about those offerings for reference only. Always verify accreditation status directly with the institution or with the Department of Higher Education and Training / relevant SETA.
MatricMatch is operated by Mafa Technologies (Pty) Ltd (Registration No. 2026/178678/07), Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa. This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, store, and protect your personal information in compliance with the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA).
We collect personal information only when you voluntarily provide it. Specifically:
We process your personal information for the following purposes:
We process your personal information on the basis of your consent (given when you tick the consent checkbox on the application form) and where necessary for the performance of a contract (the application assistance service you have requested). Any special personal information (e.g. race, disability status) is processed only on the basis of your separate, explicit consent, as required by POPIA section 27(1)(a).
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes. Your information may be shared only in the following circumstances:
Personal information submitted through application assistance requests — including documents collected for submission to institutions or funders — is retained for a period of 24 months after your request is closed, after which it is permanently deleted. Your account itself (name, email, phone, address, ID number, password), and any CV or supporting documents uploaded directly to your profile, are retained for as long as your account exists and are permanently deleted the moment you delete your account or remove a document yourself — they are not on the 24-month schedule above, since they aren't tied to a specific closed request. Login/session records are kept only while a session is active and are deleted on logout, expiry, or account deletion. Anonymous usage logs are retained indefinitely in aggregated, non-identifiable form.
You have the right to:
To exercise any of these rights, use the tools on your profile page, or contact our Information Officer at mafa.maketela@matricmatch.co.za.
We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your personal information from unauthorised access, loss, or misuse — including one-way password hashing, rate-limited login attempts, session tracking you can review and revoke from your profile, CVs/documents that are never publicly accessible by URL, encryption of South African ID numbers and bank account numbers in our database, and a two-person approval process (each independently verified by a one-time emailed code) before any wallet withdrawal is paid out. However, no internet transmission is 100% secure and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Many MatricMatch users are matric students who may be under 18. If you are a minor, please only use MatricMatch's application assistance and payment features with the involvement of a parent, guardian, or other competent person, as required by section 35 of POPIA. If we become aware that a child's personal information was submitted without the required consent of a competent person, we will take reasonable steps to delete it — a parent or guardian may also contact us at any time to review or request deletion of a minor's information.
A full PAIA Manual (Section 51) is also available, setting out how to request access to records we hold.
MatricMatch uses the following types of browser storage:
sessionStorage — a temporary local store cleared when
your browser tab is closed. This data never leaves your device.
localStorage so you are not shown the consent banner on every visit.
We do not use tracking cookies, advertising cookies, or third-party analytics cookies. The APS scores and subject marks you enter are processed in your browser and are not stored on our servers unless you explicitly submit an application assistance request.
The application assistance service is a paid service. Fees are charged based on the number of unique institutions in your shortlist across courses, bursaries, and student loans:
Prices shown are in South African Rand (ZAR) and are inclusive of any applicable VAT. Prices may be updated from time to time at the discretion of Mafa Technologies — the current price will always be displayed before you pay.
MatricMatch provides digital and administrative application-assistance services — there is no physical product or delivery. Your payment covers our team's time and labour in reviewing your shortlist and manually preparing and submitting your application(s) to the institutions, TVET colleges, and/or funders you selected — it is a fee for this assistance work, not for a guaranteed outcome. Payment does not guarantee admission, funding, a bursary award, loan approval, registration, or any other outcome, and does not guarantee that a specific institution or funder will accept or respond to the application; those decisions rest entirely with the institution or funder. See the Disclaimer above and Section 6 (Accuracy of Information).
How to pay: payment is normally made by direct EFT into our company bank account. After submitting your request, you'll be shown our banking details and a unique reference number for that request — please use this exact reference so we can match your payment to your request. Your request is marked "Payment Pending" until our team manually confirms your payment has been received against our bank statement, which we aim to do promptly. From time to time we may also offer payment via PayFast, a South African payment service provider operating under PCI DSS standards; where PayFast is offered and used, payment is confirmed automatically instead. Once payment is verified, or immediately for a free request, our team begins processing — we may contact you if we need further information or documents before we can proceed.
Service delivery: once your payment is confirmed and your request moves to "New", our team reviews your shortlisted courses, bursaries, and/or student loans and submits the relevant application(s) on your behalf to the institutions and funders you selected. We aim to make first contact within 24 hours of payment confirmation; response times thereafter depend on the institutions and funders themselves, which are outside our control.
You must provide accurate, complete, and valid information and documents needed to process your application(s). MatricMatch cannot be responsible for delays or unsuccessful applications caused by incorrect, incomplete, or invalid information or documents; late submission of information; incorrect contact details; a failure to respond to our requests for information; or other circumstances outside MatricMatch's reasonable control.
You are responsible for providing your information and documents with enough time for us to process your request before the relevant institution's deadline. MatricMatch may display deadlines on the site for convenience, but the official deadline published by the institution always takes priority, and we do not guarantee an application will be accepted where information is submitted too close to, or after, that deadline.
If you cancel your request while it is still "Payment Pending" (we have not yet confirmed your payment) or "New" (payment confirmed, but assistance work has not yet begun), you are entitled to a full refund — see Cancellation Policy below for how this is paid out. Refunds are generally not available once your request moves to "Processing" or "Completed", as assistance work has by then begun; where the service has already commenced, we may take into account the portion of work already performed when assessing any refund or credit, subject to your statutory rights. Two exceptions: (1) if you have concerns about a payment after work has begun, contact us within 48 hours at mafa.maketela@matricmatch.co.za and we will assess your case fairly; and (2) if MatricMatch is unable to complete your request for any reason on our side (status marked "Cancelled" after payment), you are entitled to a full refund. Refunds are credited to your MatricMatch wallet (see Section 3.1) rather than reversed to your original payment method — you can withdraw this balance to your own bank account at any time, subject to a small processing fee and our two-person approval process (see Section 3.7). Nothing in this policy limits any refund or cancellation right you have that cannot lawfully be excluded under applicable South African consumer protection law.
You can cancel your own request, free of charge, at any time while its status is "Payment Pending" or "New", using the Cancel Request button on your My Requests page — this takes effect immediately, and any confirmed payment is credited to your wallet per the Refund Policy above. Once your request moves to "Processing", it can no longer be cancelled by you, since our team has begun working on it; the refund policy above applies instead. To raise a concern about a request that is "Processing" or "Completed", contact us at mafa.maketela@matricmatch.co.za. Where you ask us to begin work on your request before any statutory cooling-off period would otherwise expire, your cancellation rights during that period may be affected, to the extent permitted by applicable law.
MatricMatch's application-assistance fee is separate from, and does not include, any application fee charged directly by a university, college, bursary provider, lender, or other institution. You remain responsible for paying any such fees yourself, directly to that institution or provider.
For EFT payments, your request stays "Payment Pending" until we confirm receipt — this can take up to 30 minutes or more to reflect. Please don't make another payment for the same request just because it hasn't reflected immediately. If a duplicate payment does happen, contact us at mafa.maketela@matricmatch.co.za and we will investigate and, once verified, provide an appropriate refund or wallet credit.
We make reasonable efforts to process requests promptly, but processing can be delayed by things outside our control — incomplete or incorrect information, payment verification, institution or third-party system downtime, unusually high volumes, or other circumstances beyond MatricMatch's reasonable control. A delay caused by a third party doesn't mean MatricMatch has failed to deliver the service, provided we've taken reasonable steps to perform it. See also Section 7 (Limitation of Liability).
Your MatricMatch wallet holds any balance credited to you — from refunds on cancelled paid requests, or cash rewards for community contributions — and is shown on your My Requests page alongside the total you've paid us to date. You may request a withdrawal of your wallet balance at any time; a small processing fee (currently R5, which may change from time to time — the fee in effect is always shown before you confirm) is deducted, and every withdrawal must be independently approved by two authorised MatricMatch staff/administrators before it is paid out, as a fraud-prevention control.
You can track the progress of your request at any time by logging in and visiting My Requests, where each request shows one of the following statuses:
We make reasonable efforts to keep course and institution data accurate and up to date. However, MatricMatch does not warrant that the information on this site is complete, current, or free from errors. Course minimum APS scores, subject requirements, application dates, and fees may change at any time at the discretion of individual institutions.
If you notice incorrect or outdated information, please contact us at mafa.maketela@matricmatch.co.za so we can correct it.
Some of our content review processes may use automated tools, including AI, to help identify or draft candidate bursary and course listings. Any AI-assisted content is reviewed by our team before publication, but errors are still possible — the same verify-directly guidance above applies.
